Jerald Sklar, MD (pictured) and Mary Fleischli, MD joined other board certified dermatologist members of the DFW Dermatological Society to provide free screening to people from across the metroplex during the organization’s 2012 DFW Annual Skin Cancer Screening. This year, screenings were held on Saturday April 28th at four area facilities including Medical Center of Plano, Medical City Hospital-Dallas, Baylor Regional Medical Center at Irving, and Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital.
In addition to raising awareness of skin cancer, organizers report that every year multiple likely melanomas and other forms of skin cancers are identified among those screened who otherwise might not have been screened due to lack of insurance and/or access to appropriate medical care. Additionally, the event provides a forum to help educate the public about the importance of regular screening, especially for those who are at higher risk, and highlight the importance of daily sun protection to help prevent skin cancer.
New sun screen labeling guidelines announced last summer by the FDA go into affect June 18, 2012 to help people be sure they are getting complete broad-spectrum protection from the product they choose. According to Dr. Fleischli, “all the brands of sunscreen we carry more than meet those guidelines and our skin care specialists can help you choose the SPF, water resistance, and form (spray, lotion, etc.) right for you and your lifestyle.”

Most weddings involve a year or more of planning for everything from the dress and flowers to photographers and caterers. Although a wedding week facial, at the local spa, may seem like a good stress reliever, it often results in the impurities, created by that stress, bursting to the surface to put a blemish on your big day.
Every Bride and Mother of the Bride should be radiant. Start by incorporating these skincare tips in your plans as early as possible:
1. Help rid your body of toxins and hydrate your skin by drinking lots of water while reducing alcohol and caffeine intake.
2. Avoid under eye circles. Look and feel more vibrant by making regular exercise and sleep priorities.
Ask about SkinCeuticals® AGE Eye Complex, Vivite® Revitalizing Eye Cream, or
Obagi® Elastiderm Eye Serum. Grow longer, thicker eyelashes with Latisse®.
3. Stick to an effective daily skincare regimen that includes the right combination of exfoliation, cleansing and conditioning of your face, neck, shoulders, and décolletage.
We can recommend those best suited to your skin type.
Ask about the Obagi® ELASTIderm Décolletage System.
4. Apply sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, every day.
We have a wide variety of broad-specturm sunscreens available from Elta MD®.
5. Schedule a trial run for hair and makeup before bridal portraits and the big day to be sure you’ll have exactly the style you want.
Don’t forget to call us at 214-751-2388, to schedule a consultation at least 6-8 weeks before the event so we can recommend the right skincare products as well as the timing for any recommended treatments to be sure cameras capture you at your very best. There are plenty of revitalizing options to consider including: skin brightening systems, chemical peels, dermal fillers, and Botox Cosmetic®. For those running out of time and needing a refreshing, no down time choice, ask about the SkinCeuticals® Micropeel.
