November 21, 2024 by vroony

At Dallas Associated Dermatologists, we specialize in personalized cosmetic treatments designed to help you achieve a natural, refreshed appearance. Dysport is one of our most popular solutions for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, helping you look and feel your best.

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that relaxes specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It’s made from botulinum toxin type A, similar to Botox, but formulated to spread more evenly across larger areas, making it particularly effective for addressing moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows.

What Is Dysport Used For?

Dysport targets dynamic wrinkles—those caused by repetitive facial movements like smiling, frowning, or squinting. Common areas treated with Dysport include:

  • Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
  • Forehead lines
  • Bunny lines (across the nose)

Dysport can also be used for subtle enhancements that create a smoother, more youthful look without appearing “frozen.”

What to Expect Before a Dysport Treatment

Before your appointment, you’ll have a consultation with one of our experienced providers. During this visit, we will:

  • Discuss your aesthetic goals and concerns
  • Review your medical history and any medications or supplements you’re taking
  • Examine your facial anatomy to determine the best treatment areas

To ensure the best results, avoid alcohol, aspirin, and blood-thinning medications for at least 24–48 hours before your appointment to minimize bruising.

What to Expect During Treatment

A Dysport treatment is quick and minimally invasive:

The provider will cleanse the treatment area. Using a fine needle, Dysport will be injected into the targeted muscles. The process typically takes 10–20 minutes, with minimal discomfort. You can return to your daily activities immediately after your session.

What to Expect After A Treatment

Following your Dysport treatment, you can expect:

  • Minimal Downtime: While some patients may experience slight redness, swelling, or bruising, these effects typically resolve quickly.

PRP Therapy

October 22, 2024 by michaelboache

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) is the gold standard in skin and hair rejuvenation and healing for a variety of conditions.

PRP is a type of therapy that leverages the body’s own regenerative resources in order to heal a range of physical problems.

Your blood consists of several components. One component of your blood is called plasma, which is the liquid part of uncoagulated blood. The role of plasma is to conduct platelets and red and white blood cells throughout the body. Plasma is highly valued as a source of healing.

Platelets are another key component of blood. Platelets are a type of blood cell responsible for blood clotting as well as helping the body to heal.

PRP therapy takes advantage of both of these powerful blood components — platelets and plasma — and uses them to aid with healing parts of the body that need it.

The dermatologists at Dallas Associated Dermatologists utilize this to aid in skin healing and hair rejuvenation.

What is PRP Therapy Used For?

In dermatology, this treatment can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions and to rejuvenate areas of the skin that are problematic.

Some of the conditions that PRP therapy can be used for are:

  • Alopecia
  • Skin ulcers
  • Acne
  • Burns
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Hair loss

PRP therapy is a non-surgical treatment that is performed in our office. Your dermatologist uses a fine needle to inject platelets and plasma (separated from your own blood) into your skin or scalp. The procedure causes mild discomfort. You may feel a slight pinch as the needle pierces your skin.

Results from PRP therapy may take a while to be noticeable, although improvement will begin to take place almost immediately and continue for about three months. Multiple treatment sessions are usually needed to achieve the desired effects. Effects can be expected to last up to a year or more.

Types of PRP Therapy

Different types of this treatment are determined based on the number of growth factors detected in the blood sample (after it is processed).

Four types of this therapy exist:

  • Pure PRP
  • Leukocyte-rich PRP
  • Pure platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)
  • Leukocyte-rich PRF

Am I a Candidate for PRP Therapy?

You may be a candidate for PRP if you suffer from any of the conditions known to respond favorably to PRP therapy. You and your dermatologist at Dallas Associated Dermatologists can discuss your suitability for this type of treatment.

The qualities of a good candidate are:

  • Overall good health with no underlying conditions
  • Other treatment options have not worked
  • Comfortable with giving blood samples for the therapy
  • Skin condition is in the early-to-mid-stages

There are many reasons to consider this treatment. Not only is it considered to be very effective, but the results can also be transformative.

Laser Therapy

October 22, 2024 by michaelboache

Laser therapy works by increasing cellular energy and encouraging healthy regeneration.

Lasers have been used in dermatology for at least 40 years. Recent advances have not only increased the efficacy of laser therapy but broadened its scope of usefulness. Laser therapy is used for everything from hair removal to the destruction of cancerous skin growths.

The benefits of this treatment include the fact that it is non-invasive and virtually painless. Although sometimes minimal side effects can occur, like temporary pain or discomfort or blistering, most would agree that this treatment is certainly worth considering.

Your dermatologist at Dallas Associated Dermatologists can let you know if laser therapy might be right for your condition.

What is It Used For?

We offer a wide variety of laser types and treatments and many conditions respond very well to laser therapy, such as:

  • Overgrowth of hair
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation (age spots)
  • Skin lesions, warts or scars
  • Wrinkles or fine lines
  • Sagging skin/jowls
  • Spider veins, broken capillaries or vascular lesions
  • Rosacea
  • Birthmarks

There are even more skin conditions that may warrant consideration of this treatment. Talk to your dermatologist at Dallas Associated Dermatologists to see if laser therapy may be right for you.

Am I a Candidate?

Laser therapy is effective for many conditions, including those brought about by lifestyles and habits.

If you regularly sunbathe or have a history of drinking or smoking, you may need treatment for sun damage, wrinkles, and broken capillaries. It is not preventative, so if you indulge in the same kind of behaviors, the initial problem will return.

The best candidates for this treatment are those who are willing to do more to protect their skin. That way, the results will be lasting.

There are others who might not respond well to this style of treatment. This includes those who:

  • Are currently taking certain acne medications
  • Are vulnerable to excess scarring
  • Are pregnant
  • Are taking blood-thinning medication or aspirin daily
  • Have certain skin resurfacing disorders
  • Are prone to sunburns or who currently have a tan or sunburn
  • Have active acne breakouts
  • Are dark-skinned

Your dermatologist will advise you as to whether or not you are a good candidate for this. Often, the reason someone isn’t a good candidate has to do with the potential for visible scarring after treatment. But all in all, a healthy individual with relatively good skin and no underlying conditions can expect to be a good candidate for this treatment.

This treatment is FDA-approved and has been shown to be highly effective over the decades. Why not see for yourself what laser therapy can do for your skin?
